Essex Semiquincentennial Events

This year, we will join in the town-wide celebration of America 250 or the Semiquincentennial (SemiQ, for short), reflected in our 2026 Festival emblem, created by Sean Murtha. In the coming months, we’ll share how this year’s Festival will look, feel, and sound downright revolutionary!
Some background On July 4, 2026, the United States of America will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In 2022, CT Governor Ned Lamont signed Executive Order 22-2 that created the America 250 CT Commission. Since then, the Commission has been creating a structure, developing goals and themes, and inviting historical, cultural, and civic organizations, on the State and local level, to plan special events, ceremonies, and other engaging activities that bring people together and highlight the unique character of our communities. Every event helps to ensure this historic commemoration is inclusive, impactful,
and representative of the diverse voices and experiences that define our nation.
The town of Essex created a Semi-Q Committee, which has begun planning for its America 250 celebration with local businesses, restaurants, libraries, museums, and civic organizations to organize a wide range of commemorative events and activities to honor this historic milestone in 2026.
